Stephanie Downs-Canner, MD, FACS, a breast surgical oncologist, joined MSK in January 2022 as an assistant attending surgeon. Her surgical practice is dedicated to treating breast cancer patients, and her NIH-funded laboratory work is focused on the role of B cells in tumor immunology and immunotherapy. She also directs MSK’s breast surgical oncology fellowship program.
Dr. Downs-Canner earned an undergraduate degree in economics from Williams College and graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, she completed a two-year post-doctoral research fellowship in tumor immunology, funded by a competitive NIH training grant, while completing a residency in general surgery. Dr. Downs-Canner completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at MSK and then joined the University of North Carolina School of Medicine faculty before joining MSK in 2022.
