Alliric I. Willis, MD, MSPH is a Professor of Surgery specializing in surgical oncology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, within the Sidney Kimmel Medical College and the Sidney Kimmel NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Willis serves as the Vice Chair of Faculty Development and Faculty Affairs in the Department of Surgery, the Chair of the Cancer Committee of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and as the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs in the Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC). Dr. Willis currently serves in the SSO as Chair of the SPHERE (Surgical Oncology Pathways to Health Engagement, Research, & Education) Committee.
Dr. Willis graduated from Harvard College and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed general surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, including a surgical research fellowship at Yale. He subsequently completed surgical oncology fellowship at the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Dr. Willis earned a Master of Science in Population Health from the Thomas Jefferson University College of Population Health. Dr. Willis also completed formal leadership training through the Thomas Jefferson University Leadership Academy and formal training in health disparities research through the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Willis’ surgical oncology practice focuses on thyroid & parathyroid surgery, melanoma, and breast cancer. His clinical expertise has been recognized with multiple consecutive years of Top Doctor Awards by Philadelphia Magazine. His excellence as a teacher and mentor has been recognized by students and residents with multiple Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Education and multiple consecutive selections to the SKMC Education Honor Roll by the medical college students.
Dr. Willis’ research has been NCI funded and focuses on health services in the care of cancer patients. He serves as a reviewer for multiple journals and serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Medical Quality. Dr. Willis is a member of multiple societies including the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Surgical Association, the Society of University Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Halsted Society, the Society of Black Academic Surgeons, and the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery of which he is Past President.
