Henry A. Pitt, MD is the Chief of Oncologic Quality for the Rutgers Cancer Institute and a Distinguished Professor of Surgical Oncology at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Pitt graduated AOA from Cornell University Medical College in 1971. He trained in surgery at Johns Hopkins and began his career as a hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgeon at UCLA in 1979. In 1985 he returned to Johns Hopkins as Vice Chairman of Surgery and rose to the rank of Professor. In 1997 he was appointed Chairman of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Surgeon-in-Chief at the Froedtert Memorial Hospital. In 2004 he joined colleagues from Johns Hopkins at Indiana University where he helped to grow a premier HPB clinical and training program and became the University Hospital’s Chief Quality Officer. From 2013-20 he was the Chief Quality Officer for the Temple University Health System and Associate Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Dr. Pitt has been President of the Society of Clinical Surgery, the AHPBA, the IHPBA, the IHPBA Kenneth Warren Foundation and the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery. Dr. Pitt has received peer-reviewed funding for 30 years, has served on multiple Editorial Boards, has published 581 manuscripts and 151 book chapters and also has edited 23 books. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and an Honorary Professor of three Chinese medical schools.
