Dr. Daniel Anaya is a Senior Member/Professor, Chair-Department of GI Surgical Oncology & Gastroenterology, and Deputy Physician-in-Chief &Transformation Officer at Moffitt Cancer Center. He is a fellowship-trained surgical oncologist and specializes in the surgical and multidisciplinary management of patients with complex hepatobiliary, pancreas and neuroendocrine tumors. He has developed multiple clinical academic programs along the course of his career and his academic interests center around delivery of care models, teaching of complex surgical techniques in HPB surgery, and novel therapies for hepatobiliary and neuroendocrine malignancies.
Dr. Anaya is actively involved in initiatives spanning across clinical care, outcomes & translational research, clinical trials, training, and international outreach; with projects funded through federal, industry, foundation, and local grants. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed publications, more than 20 book chapters and has delivered over 90 invited national and international presentations. He developed a Course on Surgical Techniques in HPB Surgery, geared to incoming Fellows nationally, currently on its 6th edition. He has led multiple international courses in the fields of academic surgery, faculty development, surgical oncology and HPB/Neuroendocrine surgery.
Dr. Anaya earned his medical degree at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. He completed General Surgery residency at University of Washington School of Medicine, in Seattle, and a Surgical Oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Recently, he completed a Master’s degree in Healthcare Transformation at The University of Texas, Austin.
