Dr. Rachyl Shanker received an M.D. with Distinction in Research from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University and B.S. in Biology with Interdisciplinary Honors at Loyola University Chicago. During her undergraduate studies, she was awarded the Mulcahy and Provost Fellowships for her work analyzing genetic transposition in crop species. As a medical student, her research investigating sex differences in neuronal activation received the 2020 Dr. Sheinin Award for originality and creativity. At the conclusion of medical school, Dr. Shanker performed clinical research with the Loyola Department of Neurological Surgery as a Christopher Family Research Fellow.
Presently, she is a General Surgery resident at Loyola University Medical Center pursuing a clinical research fellowship at the NCI Surgical Oncology Program studying liver immuno-oncology in the Greten lab. Dr. Shanker’s career interests are in surgical oncology, hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, and translational research. Her research in the Greten Lab examines liver and biliary tract cancer with focus on tumor microenvironment and immunotherapy.
