Deshka Foster attended Stanford University for her undergraduate training graduating with honors in Human Biology and subsequently completed a Fulbright research scholarship in Malaysian Borneo. She earned a master’s degree in African Studies from Stanford University for malaria research in Tanzania and went on to receive her M.D. degree from Drexel University prior to returning to Stanford for her General Surgery residency training. During her residency research years, she completed a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology in Michael Longaker’s laboratory supported by an ARTS fellowship. After residency, she completed dual fellowship training in Complex General Surgical Oncology and Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She returned to Stanford as an Assistant Professor in HPB Surgical Oncology and as principal investigator of a basic and translational science laboratory. Dr Foster’s clinical interests include HPB malignancies and hepatic artery infusion regional therapy. Her primary research focuses include cancer associated fibroblasts and tumor microenvironment in pancreas cancer and cholangiocarcinoma as well as abdominal adhesion fibrosis.
