Dr. Taggart received her medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 2001, where she also completed residency in 2006. Upon completion of fellowships in General Oncologic Surgical Pathology and Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, she joined the faculty in the Department of Anatomic Pathology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 2009. Currently, she is a professor in the Section of Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology. She was director of the Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology Fellowship from 2020 to 2025. She has published multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts, has authored book chapters in appendiceal, colorectal, and anal pathology, and has presented many educational conferences on gastrointestinal pathology both in the United States and internationally. She is an ad hoc reviewer for multiple journals. Her academic interests include appendiceal neoplasms and colorectal carcinomas with an emphasis on hereditary colorectal carcinoma.
