Charlie Bailey performed research in the private sector after completing a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, and subsequently began pursuing a PhD at the University of Kentucky in the laboratory of Joseph Kim, MD, a surgical oncologist at the university. He primarily studies the microenvironment of pancreatic cancer and approaches to overcoming immunosuppression during immunotherapeutic treatment of pancreatic cancer.
