Dr. Shruti Zaveri is breast surgical oncology faculty within the Department of Surgery at Alaska Native Medical Center, with a primary research focus of studying surgical and cancer care capacity in low resource settings both locally and globally. She was previously an Assistant Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology at The University of Texas Southwestern, secondary faculty at Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health at UTSW, and Director of Global Surgical Oncology at UTSW. She graduated from Northwestern University with an undergraduate degree in Economics and Global Health and completed a concurrent MD and MPH degree program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She completed surgical residency training at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the inaugural breast surgery fellow in the Global Cancer Care Track. She has been productive in several research avenues merging her interest in surgery and public health, including work in postoperative opioid reduction, access to surgical care in resource-limited settings, and disparities in surgical and oncologic care. She is actively involved in ACS HOPE, the SSO International Committee, the G4 Alliance (a global alliance on surgical, obstetric, trauma, and anesthesia care), and CUGH (Consortium of Universities for Global Health).
