Dr. Diaz is a complex General Surgical Oncology Fellow at the University of Chicago. He was formally a General Surgery resident at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, IHPI Clinician Scholar, and fellow at the IHPI Center for Healthcare Outcomes and Policy (CHOP). He is from Miami, Florida and studied at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. During medical school, he worked on research and public policy for electronic cigarettes at the World Health Organization in Geneva Switzerland. Additionally, he has researched and written about global surgery, medical education, and health care delivery.
He plans to pursue a career in academic surgical oncology and health policy research, with a focus on optimizing access, quality and value of care health systems deliver to patients. His areas of interest are in: 1) the effects of healthcare changes on surgical access and quality, 2) designing the optimal delivery network for surgical population health
