Michael Cavnar, MD is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Kentucky and the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, KY. Clinically, he specializes in hepatopancreatobiliary and gastrointestinal cancers, as well as abdominal sarcoma. Dr. Cavnar's research interests include translational and outcomes research in gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), pancreatic cancer, and colorectal liver metastases. He started a hepatic artery infusion (HAI) pump program at the University of Kentucky in 2020, and is a member of the HAI Consortium Research Network (HCRN). Dr. Cavnar is actively engaged in clinical trials, as the lead investigator for an investigator-initiated trial (IIT) of HAI and a co-lead investigator for an IIT for therepeutic dose monitoring of imatinib in GIST. Additionally, he is a member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, and serves as site PI for multiple national trials.
