Dr. Perry Shen is a surgical oncologist with expertise in the management of GI/Hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers and Peritoneal Surface Malignancies. He has served as Leader of the Gastrointestinal Disease-Oriented Team at the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center for the past seven years. In this role he has directed, supervised and provided leadership for the development of clinical trials in GI/Hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers and has been responsible for increasing patient accrual.
Dr. Shen is a clinical researcher committed to improving outcomes for patients undergoing surgery for HPB cancers/peritoneal surface malignancies and he has authored over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He also teaches and mentors residents, fellows, and medical students, and has received several teaching awards. He is the Program Director for the Wake Forest Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship which he initiated in 2010.
Dr. Shen is also Director of the Liver and Pancreas Surgery Program and responsible for the HepatoPancreatoBiliary Oncology Conference, which is a multidisciplinary treatment meeting with participation from all disciplines that treat HPB malignancies. He is also a founding member of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at AHWFB Comprehensive Cancer Center which has performed more than 2000 cytoreduction/HIPEC operations since 1991 and is one of the largest centers in the country.
Dr. Shen was appointed the Surgeon-in-Chief, Southeast Region, Atrium Levine Cancer and was recently inducted into the American College of Surgery (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators as an Associate Member for his contributions to surgical education.
