Sophia Xiao is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Iowa, currently on a research fellowship at the National Cancer Institute with Dr. Jonathan Hernandez's lab. Her research investigates the floxuridine-induced biliary toxicity in patients receiving hepatic artery infusion pump therapy for treatment of liver metastases. Her past research work encompasses body composition factors impacting pancreatectomy patients, Clonorchis sinensis's association with hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, traumatic brain injury in the gut-brain axis, and the relationship between carpal tunnel syndrome and diabetes. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis/pickleball, reading, and finding new hobbies.
