I am an early-stage surgeon scientist at the University of Michigan with a research program focused on developing and implementing innovative molecular diagnostics to improve cancer care. My training in computer engineering (B.S., M.S.), bioinformatics (Ph.D.), and surgical oncology has provided me with a comprehensive skillset. During my doctoral research in Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan’s lab, I performed computational analyses of the cancer transcriptome, revealing a vast, untapped landscape of potential cancer biomarkers. My subsequent training in general surgery and surgical oncology provided deep expertise in the clinical management of malignancies and highlighted the critical need for better diagnostic tools. As a surgical oncology fellow and early career faculty, I have embraced spatial transcriptomic platforms to deepen our understanding of how molecular features associate with pathologic findings and clinical outcomes.
My expertise at the intersection of computational biology, cancer transcriptomics, and surgical oncology directly informs my laboratory's mission: to explore the complex, uncharted aspects of the cancer transcriptome, translate our discoveries into innovative diagnostic platforms, and implement diagnostic tools to address critical needs in cancer care.
