Silvia Stacchiotti is a medical oncologist with a lifelong dedication to patient care and research in the fields of bone and soft tissue sarcomas and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Based at the National Cancer Institute in Milan, Italy, her work focuses on pioneering innovative treatments for patients with sarcomas, particularly those with ultra-rare histologies.
Her research encompasses the natural history of sarcomas, their response to conventional systemic therapies, the identification of novel therapeutic targets and anticancer agents, and the mechanisms of drug resistance. She is actively involved in developing clinical guidelines to optimize treatment strategies for sarcoma patients and fostering collaboration with regulatory agencies to improve development of new treatments for patients affected by sarcomas and rare cancers.
With over two decades of experience, Dr. Stacchiotti has built extensive partnerships with the global sarcoma community and patient advocacy groups. She currently serves as past President of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS), President of the Italian Sarcoma Group (ISG), and Chair elected of the EORTC Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma Group (STBSG). Additionally, she collaborates closely with the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and is the former Chair of the ESMO Sarcoma Guidelines Committee. Dr. Stacchiotti is also an active member of the Scientific Advisory Boards (SAB) for the Chordoma Foundation, the Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma (EHE) Group, the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation, and the Anticancer Fund.
As a Principal Investigator, she leads several clinical trials focused on sarcomas. A prolific researcher, she has authored over 290 scientific publications (Scopus H-index of 78).
She received her medical degree in 1993 (Milan) and underwent training at INT. She holds certification in Clinical Oncology. She has 4 children.
