Dr. Jeffrey M. Farma, MD, FACS, is a distinguished surgical oncologist and the Paul Grotzinger and Wilbur Raab Chair of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
Since joining Fox Chase in 2009, Dr. Farma has held several key leadership roles, including Chief of the Division of General Surgery, President of the Medical Executive Committee, Surgical Director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program, and previous Program Director of the Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program.
Dr. Farma specializes in treating complex malignancies such as sarcomas, melanomas, and gastrointestinal cancers. He is proficient in traditional surgeries, regional therapies, and minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic procedures. \
An accomplished academic, Dr. Farma has authored 133 peer-reviewed publications and more than 20 book chapters. He has presented nearly 200 scientific abstracts and is a sought-after speaker at national conferences. Dr. Farma's contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the 2024 Pennsylvania Impact Award, Philadelphia Top Doctors and the Melanoma Research Foundation Wings of Melanoma Humanitarian Award.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators and serves as the Pennsylvania State Chair of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. He is the past president of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Chapter of the ACS and the Treasurer for the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery. He has served on committees with the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, NCCN, Association of Academic Surgeons, Society of University Surgeons and the Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Society Working Group.
A Philadelphia native, Dr. Farma, earned his medical degree from Temple University's Lewis Katz School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Temple University Hospital. He pursued fellowships in surgical oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center and the National Cancer Institute. Beyond his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Farma is actively involved in community outreach, leading Fox Chase teams in events like the Melanoma Research Foundation’s Miles for Melanoma. Dr. Farma's dedication to patient care, education, and research continues to advance the field of surgical oncology and improve outcomes for cancer patients regionally, nationally and internationally.
